'The Brethren' is a historical novel by H. Rider Haggard set during the Third Crusade. The book features Saladin and the Assassins as characters. The story centers on the kidnapping of a young woman named Rosamund by Saladin, her uncle. He believes that she needed to return to Damascus in order to prevent a bloody conflict. Of course, Rosamund's family wasn't going to stand down; and so her cousins, twin brothers Godwin and Wulf D'Arcy, set off from Essex to save her.
