Mrs. Inchbald published her second book "Nature and Art" in 1794 when she was forty-one. She had been married and widowed four times by this time. Her beauty of face inspired admiration, but the beauty of her inner life increased with the years; Expect nothing less from a woman so talented as Mrs. Inchbald was. She spoke her mind most fully in this story, which is told with a dramatic sense of construction that swiftly carries on the action to its close.
