This novel, written just at the turn of the century (19th to 20th), is a typical old English manor mystery story with a detective plot and a love story. Here a reader encounters a murder at the mysterious circumstances, a ghost tale is involved, and a thwarted romance angle. There is a good portion of suspense guaranteed by a couple of unexpected twists.
